Poetry... Ah sweet music

While digging around on my mother's computer the other night, I found some old bits and pieces from my University days that I had forgotten about.. some of my comic stuff and some stories and poetry I had written. I found this gem of a poem im going to share with the world, written after a tumultuous time of afflicted young(er) love. It has a great ending.. doesn't it just.. pop??

You put it out on the table, gingerly at first.
Wait for the sign to say it’s accepted.
You think it comes, it’s all a lie.
Pull it back before anyone sees it.
Afraid for your inner self, to reveal
What lurks beneath, show what you are made of.
Put it all on the line, don’t be afraid
The world is a trusting place.
At least at first, then you grow, you learn what its like
To be in the firing squad
And to step in front of the speeding bullet
As it tears into your flesh, wreaking its havoc
You wonder, was it like this for all others?
Did they feel the same way? Am I alone?

Hide it all away, retract your reaching arms.
Don’t let anyone take what is yours.
Don’t show them how you feel.
Don’t show them your essence, they are undeserving.
Show them your hate, they deserve it all.
Beat them down, they are worthless, less than nothing.
A fly in the grasp of a waiting spider.
A rock sinking to the bottom of the ocean.
A man, alone in a world amongst thieves.

Take my heart and crush it, I don’t need it to survive.
Take my heart and use it, I can live without my love.
Take my heart and throw it away. I have no use for it.

I have no use for you. You are like dirt.
If only I could wipe myself clean of your stench.
If only memories didn’t exist.
If only I had a pickaxe, I could stab it right into your eye.

Fuck you. Bitch.
