The Year in Review 2007

Kinda over working right now, so im going to put some effort into, like, updating my blog you know.

Whatever.

Going to do a rundown of my year.. go through the things I liked about it and the things I didn't like about it. I may even decide to do a list of people I hate, not sure how ill go with that.. so hold onto your pants!! OK - now tear them off like you are stepping onto the court for a dunk comp.. yeah thats it.. uhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Things I liked

India
Honk if you like Honking and mashed peas

Mostly. I say mostly because you can only really like a country that infuriates you whilst providing riveting stimulation at the same time so much... but it was a pretty great 6 week hiatus squashed in between the doldrums of working day life.

I met some great people - Karen, Nisha, Yaz, Jaya, Claire, Helena, Anna and.. yeah i suppose Terry too (although i still have nightmares about the snoring.. sheet) plus all the camp staff and all the guys who were my friends when I bought shit off them. (They offered me Chai Tea and comfortable chairs)

Overall I would say India was the highlight of my year - and also the lowlight as my stomach showed me who was boss.

Me - I'm going to go shopping and buy lots of stuff for some serious discounts.

Stomach - Oh no you are not! (initiates furious anger)

Me (falling over in a heap) - Oh god! Ganesh! Shiva!! Somebody help me!!

-CUE INTERMISSION-

Concerts

Tenacious D @ The Hordern

Tenacious D - Jack Black and Kyle Gass. Rocking the paunch.

2007 seems to be a bit of a year of the concert for me.

I saw a whole bunch of things. The year kicked off with Tenacious D which I saw with Mark "I can't play basketball but I try really hard" Radford, his hetero life mate - Jodie McDaddy and Liam.

Highlight of this concert was probably picking both of the encore songs and Jack Black's earth shattering energy on stage. The guy is a maniac - lovably so.

I also liked the props that were used and tended to make the whole thing kinda like a stage show, except with the actors being replaced by pot smoking fat metal nerds. Loved the fake cars for the chase song and "Metal" (who was a dude wearing what amounted to body armour stomping around and walking like a robot).

Give it up for KG! Give it up for me!!

Tool @ Entertainment Centre

Maynard James Keenen of Tool - I'm a cowboy

In January after the madness of Tenacious D came the cherry blossum of a rock act known as Tool. Anyone who has seen Tool in concert (and who has ever talked to me about music) knows that I love tool. This show was no exception.
It was great, MJK is great, Danny Carry (the drummer) is one of the best ever and the other two are great as well. Well, it was just really great.

What a great concert.
Ahh.. excuse me i just wet myself..

The Roots @ Enmore

The Roots - Dang these guys is good

In April i went to see the Roots in Concert.

My goodness, was I blown away.

I had always basically had Tool as my number 1 concert experience but after witnessing what the Roots had to offer I had to place them as number 1a. I was well impressed.

They had so much energy and merged one song into the next, into the next, into the next and merged a whole heap of Hip Hop classics into one song which made just about everyone in the audience jump out of their seats.

They followed this with a drum solo (drummer has a wicked fro with a comb in it too), a guitar solo, a bass solo.. ahh man - just a brilliant all round performance by one of hip hops best groups. You aint seen shit till you see the roots wigga. Good venue too always helps.. love the enmore.

Bloc Party @ the Hordern

Yeah ok, hes black and from England. Don't be racist.

Bloc Party were next up (from what I can remember anyway) and they were pretty sweet. One downer was that I don't really like the Hordern as a venue. It's like a stinking big sweat pit made out of metal. Like a shed.

Bloc Party have been an act I had wanted to see ever since Ryan "I think im good because im a manager now" Murphy got me onto them back working for Fully Poker. The dude who sings (I can't remember his name - its something very Nigerian sounding - like Obiwika Newawikia or something) has a very distinctive voice that occasionally gave out while he was rocking out.. I can forgive that, not quite on the same level as the Roots and Tool, but still good and I'm happy I went.

NEXT (impersonating Jack Black)

The Whitlams @ the Opera House

Tim Freedman

One of the really suprising live acts was the Whitlams.

I really like the Whitlams, but some of the naysayers that I went with were a little skeptical about how good they were going to be.

The big draw (I feel like writing string here.. I can't think of why the hell that sentence would make any sense though.. the big draw string.. is it a pair of pants?? Idiot) card.. card is the word im thinking of.. thank you Mr Memory..

Anyways, so the big draw card of seeing these guys live was because they were performing with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra (i am sure i spelt that wrong... at least one of the words.. i probably got Sydney right but im not sure about the other two).

Tim Freedman is amazing live, is very funny and witty in a completely intelligent way and the Orchestra were pretty good too. On top of this, the tickets were cheap.. like $40 each.

Interesting conversation I had afterwards with Mark "I earn more than you while I am sleeping" Aranjo was about guys who would be intimidating to talk to. I put Tim Freedman in this category. He would be pretty nice to talk to I think and wouldn't be a prick or anything but I just get the impression he is uber intelligent and would start throwing in words into his general venacular that would bamboozle the average person into having absolutely no idea what he was actually talking about.

I guess it is kinda like me, except replace "intelligent" with "unintelligible".

The Killers @ The Entertainment Centre

Garry Beautiful.. or Garry Flowers.. or something like that
div>

The Killers were next up, great show at the Entertainment Centre.

I was pretty damn impressed with this show because I had the impression that the Killers were going to be more of a studio band. You know, great sounding on CD because they are able to record things a million times, have heavy editing and someone sitting there saying "ok, that sounds crap.. that sounds crap.. so does that.. ok im going to record this sessional guitarist over this part of your music..that ok Garry? yeah i thought you would agree.. what you dont? shut up, i dont pay you to think"

Turns out I was wrong though (How often does that happen?). They were really good.

/me turns on monotonal voice

IT WAS REALLY GOOD.

Also, I was well impressed that they finished off their show with Helter Skelter. A cover of the Beatles classic - except I was not impressed that they didnt finish it off with
"I GOT BLISTERS ON ME FINGERS!!" ala Ringo Starr.

Can't have everything though (unless you are a cleptomaniac)

Daft Punk @ Homebush

These guys are really handsome

Ok, so I haven't gone and seen Daft Punk yet, but its coming up this Saturday so I couldn't leave it out.

Should be a good show.

OTHER GOOD THINGS

Other good things that happened this year - I got a new bed, a new job (which i left) and got another new job, had some great house parties, hung out with my great friends, went to Melbourne planned some crazy adventures.. and well, life was good sometimes.. although it was also BAD.

BAD is coming soon.. ill finish this off later as im going out
